Compass plane body made of cast iron (241×56×86/45/94 mm). Wall thickness: 5 mm, with V-shaped ribs inside and recesses at the front and back. The top is rounded with a hole for gripping.

Base extends 30 mm forward, with a 7 mm high dovetail groove (16×18 mm). On the rear V-rib, which is only 50 mm high and tapers inward over an 8 mm wide, 20 mm long slot, the iron bed plate is screwed on at a 55° angle.

The plate is 100 mm long, slightly rounded at the top, 45 mm wide, with a 7 mm thread for the iron cap screw.

Above a 20 mm wide recess is a 9×15 mm slot for the adjusting fork, which moves along the fine adjustment nut. The nut is made of bronze (⌀ 26 mm, length 7–22 mm) and runs on a 7 mm threaded pin. No lateral adjustment lever is present.

At the front and back of the iron body are 30 mm long, 12 mm wide ribs. Between them is a clamping piece held by side pins. This bronze cone is 25 mm long (⌀ 11 mm outside, ⌀ 15 mm inside) and has an 18 mm long, 2 mm wide slot with a perpendicular 6 mm threaded hole.

A standard ring screw clamp is inserted here. The sole is a slightly rounded, 1 mm thick steel plate, 260 mm long, 57 mm wide in the middle, with a stamped mouth (4×46 mm).

Attached to the mouth of the dovetail with 18 rivets, the sole is fastened to the plane body. At the front and back, the sole has 20×25 mm hinges, into which two 2×12 mm, 80 mm long steel strips are mounted and run through the bronze cone.

The rear steel strip is slightly curved at the top, while the front one bears the inscription: BAILEY'S PATENT MARCH 28, 1871.

The iron cap (112×44/22×0bis10 mm) is fully ribbed on top, polished 15 mm at the front, with a double-molding curve at the top, ribbed at the end.

The screw hole has a 12 mm diameter with a straight slot, and 10 mm above it is a circular point. The eccentric lever (39×18 mm) sits on a 58×20 mm steel spring.

Iron: 44 mm, slotted (11×83 mm)     Cutting angle: ⌀ 55°
