Cooper’s Manhole Plane

The manhole in the barrel wall, top and sides straight, slightly tapered, inside a few mm larger than outside. Necessary for barrel cleaning. The smallest will squeeze in. The lid is guided along the barrel, grease applied to the edges, the lower lid edge pressed into the joint and pulled outwards by the long screw. Usually decorated crosswood is pushed onto the screw and fastened with a wing nut.

Plane is flat on top, edges rounded, decorated with lines, wooden wedge. Right 4 to 5 cm flat, chip opening, widening 0.6 cm angled, beveled and curved at the bottom. Left 7 cm flat with rounding underneath. Sole round radius 14 cm, left 0.8 cm smaller than right (cone). Iron open on the right outside. The left conical part without iron is the depth stop.

Iron: 45 mm wide, shaft 23 mm. Cutting angle: approx. 50°. Marking: GOLDENBERG ACIER FONDU.
