Bowed Nuthook Plane

Beautiful old handwork. Planes on the right, side rounded with a radius of approx. 15 cm, a 5 mm groove. Since the bronze tongue (divided) is only 28 mm long, this groove can be rounded doubly, so it can be curved in the cylindrical rounding. (For a laterally curved glass pane, which is rounded at the top, the necessary groove can be planed in the wooden frame.)

From above, the plane part is approx. 14 cm long, rounded on the right. The handle at the back is directed to the left (inside) at hand thickness. From the left side, the guide rod of the side fence is embedded horizontally in the plane 3.5 cm above the iron edge. The wooden handle is about 7-10 cm above the chip. The nose is short and lower. Viewed from the right, the plane part is a rounded triangle at the top and front with a 28 mm tightened tip below. Iron and iron wedge are flush outside in the open slot. They are held inside the bronze piece 28 × 61 mm laterally, 30 mm high.

This bronze piece is simultaneously a 4 mm wide tongue, depth stop 8 mm high, guide for the depth adjuster 6 × 6 mm, and chip opening 15 mm to the left inside as half cone 12 × 24 mm. It is fitted into the wood and secured with two screws. Above is a 1 mm iron approx. 50 × 21 mm fitted with two screws. Above is a 1.5 mm copper plate over the entire width approx. 65 mm long and over the handle as three decorative strips, total 185 mm long.

The depth adjuster is iron 4 × 5 mm, 55 mm long with 20 mm long 6 mm thread at top, forged. Above is a handmade wing screw Ø 11 mm, wing 4 × 20 mm, total 14 mm high. The depth stop is adjustable from 0 to 8 mm.

The side fence guide rod 7 × 7 mm, 117 mm long, is anchored in the wood. Between it is a bronze strip more than 250 mm long, spanning the entire length with 1½ circle at the handle end. The fence, a bronze piece with iron overlay inside, has a 35 mm long guide laterally and at the top nicely modulated, and inside a ring piece 34 × 5/18 × 60 mm, bent inward at the bottom as chip opening 23 × 30 mm. The fence is adjustable from 0.6 to 8 cm.

A handmade 22 mm long 5 mm screw, thread neither WW nor DIN, with 29 mm wide flat head holds the fence.

Iron: 6 mm, shaft 7 mm, slightly curved. Cutting angle: approx. 60°. Condition: Very good for its age. Old repaired wood break.
