Chisel Gauge – Chip Lifting Plane
Body made of two 4 mm thick iron side plates. Front dimensions 35/28 × 42 mm, rear bottom 108 × 0–34 mm. Contains 6.5 mm iron filler pieces including soldered sole.
Rear insert is the iron stop, with a 48 mm projection, 4 mm threaded rod with 20 mm long nut Ø 9 mm, and two guide rings Ø 15 mm spaced 2.5 mm apart, thread WW 55° 36 G used as iron adjuster.
Plane iron with long 4 × 5 mm shaft is bent at a right angle over a 15 mm fork on the threaded rod. A second welded angle engages the guide rings.
Wedge is 103 mm long, 3 to 26 mm high, 6.5 mm thick iron with a 12 mm deep, 9 mm long recess on its base, with 4 mm thread to the iron shaft.
A 28 mm long, 4 mm screw with knurled Ø 11 mm head presses between wedge and iron. The backstop is a 5 mm hole through the side walls and iron wedge, held by an 18 mm long, 5 mm bolt with a large 16 mm head, allowing the wedge to pivot.
All iron parts are raw, spotted, and slightly rusty. The iron is 3 mm narrower than the sole and can be set 1 to 2 mm lower than the sole.
The plane is positioned along the wood grain, the iron just a few millimeters in front of the intended nail hole, pressed firmly against the wood and tapped forward with light hammer blows 1 to 2 cm. The chip remains in the wood and slides down the plane mouth when pulling the plane away.
Iron: 10 mm wide, bevel on top Cutting angle: approx. 18°
