Grooving Plane with concealed iron screws.

The upper edges are rounded. The escapement is on the right. Wooden wedge. On the right side, a top cover of wood measuring approx. 21.2 × 0.3 × 3.3 cm is ribbed underneath and fixed with four screws; a bronze maker’s plate (approx. 82 × 15 mm) is fitted. The skate (tongue) consists of a two-part iron blade assembly, approx. 210 × 4.3 × 3 mm, faced with a bronze plate (approx. 210 × 23 × 2 mm) and secured with five screws; both parts are recessed into a 2 mm wooden groove.

The depth stop is adjustable. An iron depth adjuster (approx. 125 × 22 × 5 mm) runs in recessed round guides (Ø 8 mm, approx. 35 mm long). Centrally there is an 8 mm screw with metric 60° thread (DIN 13/14, pitch 1.25), approx. 43 mm of thread; the complete bolt is approx. 93 mm long with a reduced 6 mm upper diameter. On top of the plane body sits a hollow bronze knob (Ø 21/22 mm) with a bronze sleeve beneath acting as a captive nut; this sleeve appears pressed onto the head and serves as a retainer for the adjusting knob and cannot be dismantled. Depth adjustment range: 0–2 cm.

The fence is wooden, approx. 21.2 × 2.1 / 3.5 × 8.2 cm, with a moulded cove on the underside. The wood contains two holes fitted with recessed bronze bushings (inner Ø approx. 21 mm) acting as sliding bearings over the bronze-covered screws embedded on the right side of the plane. Two iron screws (approx. Ø 8 mm, length approx. 210 mm) pass through the plane stock into two bronze chain sprockets.

The side fence adjustment is via a chain mechanism: two sprockets (Ø approx. 16 mm, tooth circle approx. 22 mm). The teeth are approx. 2 mm wide at the centre; the sprockets are approx. 8 mm thick. The endless chain is approx. 175 mm long and runs on the smaller pitch diameter; chain width approx. 6 mm. Between the sprockets the chain runs in a lightly greased wooden channel. On the left ends of the screws are bronze heads (Ø 15/22 mm). The bronze sleeves (wall thickness approx. 2 mm) have longitudinal slots approx. 140 mm long and 5 mm wide. Between screws and sleeves a nut is trapped in the fence to prevent rotation; when turning, the fence moves outward clockwise. Fence adjustment range: approx. 1–14 cm.

Iron: 7 mm
